DMDS Wins BET Awards Contract

We’ve just added the BET Awards and Hip Hop Awards to the roster of major awards shows utilizing the DMDS Awards System to streamline and modernize their submissions and balloting processes. Already working with the BET music department for music video submissions, we’re very pleased to expand our relationship with this strong and innovative company. Watch for the 2011 BET Awards late June in Los Angeles, and the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards early October in Atlanta. Beyoncé holds the most all-time BET Awards with 7, followed by Alicia Keys, Missy Elliott, and Serena Williams with a piece.

Are you aware that DMDS Awards is now the leading technology platform powering the music industry’s leading award shows including The JUNOS, The GRAMMYS, The MTV Video Music Awards, and The Academy of Country Music Awards?

Canadian Music Week 2011

Thanks to all the artists, label, radio, TV, trackers, and video people who stopped by the booth and took in the Street Idol panel/seminar! You made this year’s event a huge success.

Toronto took a page out of NYC’s playbook and let the bars and clubs stay open and serving until 4am, which turned out to be both a blessing and a curse. The venues were buzzing all week and DMDS staff caught a lot of great shows around the city, with the best reviews going to Hollerado, JRDN, Janelle Monae, Shad, Stef Lang, Imaginary Cities, Monster Truck…

The DMDS booth was constantly busy, and Street Idol was standing room only with a bunch of emerging recording artists sitting on the floor!

Feedback from those attending has been glowing, and according to what the judges have had to say so far, this year’s competition is even tougher than last year with the vast majority of the entrants’ songs being ready for radio.

We’re anxious to find out who’s going to win the prize package, and when the winner’s chosen, we’ll announce it here, Facebook, Twitter, and the DMDS Blog, so stay tuned!

More Reason to Go Tapeless!

The horrific and tragic earthquake and tsunami in Northeastern Japan is having an impact on the broadcasting industry here in North America. Suspension of operations at a number of manufacturing plants has led to an impending shortage of tapes for the foreseeable future including Betacam SP, Digital Betacam, and XDCAM. Prices have risen and will continue to rise due to scarcity. More on this from the Hollywood Reporter: http://bit.ly/fiZBzL

DMDS broadcast video delivery lets you deliver broadcast ready, closed-captioned digital files to virtually all major music TV broadcasters in the US and Canada, with a completely tape-less workflow, which protects you from price increases on the already too expensive tape medium, AND makes the submission process faster, easier, and greener. Sign up for an account to digitally submit or receive music videos at www.dmds.com, or call 1-866-992-9902 to speak with a sales rep.

Positive Progression

Chris Johnson

Over the past 20 years Chris Johnson has developed North Carolina based Positive Progression into a national platform to promote hip hop and gospel music videos. Positive Progression currently receives content on the new Music Video Outlets – Hip Hop/Urban (USA) list on DMDS. Chris recently talked to DMDS about his transformation from a college radio personality into his own television show and internet music video channel.

Please tell us how you got into the music industry and what you've done in your time here?

A NYC native, I moved to Raleigh, North Carolina to attend College at North Carolina State University. College radio at WKNC-FM was the initial start for me. Coming from New York I noticed the college station lacked in diverse music programming so I introduced the station to House Music. We’re talking Jungle Bros., Marshall Jefferson, Ten City, Colonel Abrams and all of the many legendary house musicians back in the day. My broadcast shift was the “House Mix” on Saturday nights….our phone lines in the studio went crazy with all kinds of requests, introducing a huge listening audience to something new and fresh to the college market. This opened the door for numerous other opportunities including the production of Positive Progression TV Show.

Since that time, Positive Progression has become one of the top music video programmers in the country and the premier video show in the Carolinas for over 20 years. We’ve gone on to win 2x "Video Show of The Year" from The Urban Network, a Billboard Award winner from the Billboard Music Awards Conference, and we’ve had numerous features in major magazines including: SOURCE, HITS, and many trade publications.

What kind of music video content do you usually play on your shows?

The Positive Progression TV Show has an all music format programming structure. But some of the content that we currently play includes:

  • Gospel: MARY MARY, Dietrick Haddon, Melinda Watts
  • Hip Hop: Wiz Khalifa, Flo Rida feat. AKON, Nicki Minaj feat Drake
  • R&B: Jennifer Hudson, Bobby V, Tiffany Evans, Avery Sunshine, Carmen Rodgers
  • Pop/Crossover: Adele, Miranda Cosgrove

Where can people currently see the videos that you’re promoting?

We’re currently promoting Gospel music through our www.highimpactgospel.com music site and we have a mainstream site scheduled to launch in April 2011. Positive Progression TV can be seen nationwide on DISH Satellite Channels 9407/9396 Saturdays at 5pm & Mondays 10PM EST.
