March 20, 2012 – Canadian music lovers have embraced CBC Music, and are enjoying free access to its 40 different web radio stations, tens of thousands of individual tracks, live performance videos, concerts on demands and more.

Since its official launch on February 13, 2012, over 650,000 Canadians have visited CBC Music. CBC Music has generated more than 3.5 million page views, with a cumulative listening total of 3 million hours of music.

“We created CBC Music in order to better provide Canadians with the kinds of music they love, and in the way they want to access it,” said Chris Boyce, executive director of radio and audio of CBC English Services. “Based on the response we’ve already seen, Canadians are clearly enjoying the experience that CBC Music offers.”

Rock, Classical, Singer-Songwriter, Jazz, Pop and Country were the five most popular communities visited, reflecting the diversity of genres both enjoyed by Canadians and available through CBC Music.

The new service is loaded with exclusive content in all of the various music communities, ranging from videos of rock god Randy Bachman jamming new music and some of his classic hits with some of today’s hottest acts (“on Reworking Randy”), to six of Canada’s top cellists, each  performing their take on one of Bach’s cello suites.

CBC Music is the latest offering of the CBC’s 2015 plan to evolve its services in innovative ways through new platforms, designed to better engage with Canadians and allow them to personalize their experience.
